Laura had previously completed 2 sprint triathlons and took on the OIympic distance which is twice the distance of a sprint. She completed a 1,500 meter swim, a 25 mile bike ride, and 10k run. For the challenge, she worked closely with her coach, Don Scarpero, of DCS Endurance Coaching.
Coach Scarpero is a USAT certified triathlon coach, an ASCA certified swimming coach, and a healthy running certified coach, and will continue to work closely with Laura to ensure that she continues to improve her fitness in her quest to conquer the Ironman test.
When asked about her overall performance at Buck Creek, Coach Scarpero stated, “She did well across the board and blasted everyone in her field, except the winner, in the transitions and the run. Congratulations to her!”
Buck Creek marked the end of Laura’s 2017 triathlon season and she will now look ahead to completing her next challenge–a half Ironman distance.
Her ultimate goal is to qualify for and complete the Ironman World Championship in October 2019, the year in which Laura turns 40, where she will push herself to the limit against some of the best athletes in the world. It will be held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Laura came to the United States at a young age, after being born in Panama City, Panama. It was while growing up in the United States that she fell in love with the English language and developed a love of writing. She published her first book, My Dog, Jack, in 2013, and has a number of other stories available on Amazon.
