Phoenix, AZ, United States - September 4, 2018 /MarketersMedia/ —
Plattner Verderame, P.C. is pleased to announce that Kenneth W. Cody has been selected as the recipient of the Plattner Verderame Civil Justice Scholarship for 2018. Mr. Cody is a 1L student at Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
“We are very pleased to be able to give this year’s award to Kenneth Cody,” said firm founder Frank Verderame. “He really embodies the core mission of the scholarship: to promote justice by helping today’s law students pursue their educational goals. We expect to see great things from Mr. Cody.”
About award winner Kenneth Cody
Kenneth Cody was born and raised in Georgia, alongside his eight siblings. He earned his degree in Political Science from Texas Wesleyan University. Before enrolling in undergraduate work, however, he worked as a motorhand on an oil rig in Texas. While performing routine maintenance on the rig, Mr. Cody sustained a serious injury to his knee, which forced him out of work for months for months while he healed.
It was later revealed that Mr. Cody’s driller had not followed proper protocol when he ordered Mr. Cody to perform the action that led to his injury. Furthermore, the company itself had ignored blatant violations committed by the driller for years, allowing him to remain in his position despite the risks and dangers it posed to the rest of the oil rig crew. Mr. Cody also learned that, despite what he was told at the time of his injury, there were additional legal options available to him, to hold the company and the driller accountable. All of these facts together inspired Mr. Cody to study the law.
